OTHER SERVICES
*NAIL CLIPPING *EAR CLEANING *EAR PLUCKING*

(Please note ear cleaning will only be provided if there are no infections or other medical problems with the ears. Ear plucking involves removing hair from inside the ear canal which can get matted and clog the ear overtime, contributing to infections. This service will only be carried out as long as there are no medical problems with the ears and your dog shows no signs of stress or discomfort. Most common amongst poodle and bichon type breeds.)

HAND STRIPPING

This service is only available to wire haired breeds such as terriers and hounds and silky coated breeds such as setters and spaniels. Hand stripping is a skill which involves removing the dead top coat by hand and other stripping tools to reveal a new soft undercoat on wire coats and using a banded comb to remove dead and loose undercoat on silky coats. The process is painless to the dog with advantages over clipping the coat including preserving the coat colour and texture.

To successfully hand strip your wire coat dog, you will need to come in once every 3-6 months as the coat should be blown by this time (meaning the top coat is dead and ready to be pulled out). The process will take around 3/4+ hours depending on how much coat your dog has as well as behaviour. Your dog's coat will be assessed before hand stripping to see if the coat is ready to come out or if it can be hand stripped at all. If it is not then I can just carry out a bath and nail trim with a face, feet and sanitary trim for the time being and you will be booked in for a months time to give the coat time to grow more.

Please note there is always a risk that your dog can develop Post Grooming Furunculosis after hand stripping which is a painful skin infection. There are lots of theories as to what can cause this condition including bathing in the same appointment.  I can offer you a free bath for 2 weeks after hand stripping as the skin pores will be fully closed by this time.

If you would prefer your dog's coat to have layers (a rolled coat), you will need to bring them in once every 4 weeks so only the longest hairs will be pulled from the jacket.

For silky coats, I would recommend visiting every 6-8 weeks. Bathing can still be carried out at the same appointment and should take around 2.5-3 hours.

PUPPY INTRODUCTION

Grooming is an essential part of your dog's life. It's very important for your dog to learn from a very early age that grooming is a pleasant experience as it can set you up for a confident dog with grooming in the future as well as making the groomer's life easier being able to groom a well behaved and confident dog . Its a wonderful bonding experience between puppy and groomer and brushing your puppy at home will also be a bonding experience for you both too. I would recommend bringing your puppy in a week after having their final puppy vaccinations for their very first session with me (this is usually around 12-14 weeks of age).

The first session will be 30 minutes long and is free. Puppy will come to meet me at the salon, having a good sniff around exploring. Sniffing is an important part of how a dog picks up information of their surroundings so it's important to let your puppy explore the salon on their first visit.  I will give them puppy safe treats and will have some toys for them to play with. I will introduce them with the noise of the dryers and gentle air drifting over them, the noise of the water running and testing them standing in the bath with the water gently running (the water may touch their feet but nowhere else), learning to stand on the table and experiencing wearing restraints aswell as the noise of clippers and scissors. I will practice handling puppy too, preparing them for their first professional grooming experience.

Their next session will consist of a bath, blow dry, nail trim, ear cleaning and a good brush and comb through. Regular playtime and toilet breaks will be included at each session so puppy isn't too bored and finding it too stressful and feedback will be given upon collection on puppy's behaviour and how we can improve at home inbetween appointments. If puppy was happy at the previous session then next session will include the same services as before but will also introduce trimming with scissors around the face, head, ears and feet as well as clipping the sanitary areas and around the toepads.

If puppy has coped ok with these 2 sessions then we can move on to having their very first haircut as their next appointment. If puppy still isn't happy with certain aspects of the groom then we will book some more sessions to work on desensitising them to these areas before having their first haircut. Prices will vary depending on breed/ cross breed, taking into consideration mix, coat condition, size and behaviour.

At the end of the lesson I will present you with a list on the info we have covered in the lesson including a silhouette of your dog's breed and areas labelled with a checklist that require brushing and combing to help you. ULTRASONIC TEETH CLEANING WITH EMMI-PET ELECTRONIC TOOTH BRUSH

Did you know that 4 out of 5 dogs have dental problems? It's estimated that 80% of dogs begin to show signs of oral disease by the time they reach 2 years of age. My ultrasonic Emmi-pet tooth brush provides deep teeth cleaning in a 12mm radius, helping to prevent dental issues such as bad breath, tooth loss, tar build up and hardened plaque, gum disease,  gingivitis, periodontitis and oral cavity disease!

A piezo chip is installed into the top of each tooth brush head which generates 96,000,000 ultrasonic sound waves/ impulses per minute. These waves travel down the bristles of the tooth brush head and, combined with the tooth paste, forms tiny microbubbles on the surface of each tooth and causes them to implode from high pressure. The force created from the implossions cleans the plaque and staining from the teeth. The tooth brush is gently held onto each tooth for 10 seconds. Each session lasts for 30 minutes.

COURSES

The amount of sessions needed will depend on the condition of your dog's teeth so an assessment will be carried out at your very first session. This will also help to determine if your dog is mouth shy in which case desensitisation sessions may be needed to be carried out first. Each of these desensitisation sessions will last 10 minutes for £10 per session. The assessment will also help determine if the condition of your dog's oral health may require a vet visit first before embarking onto the teeth cleaning sessions.

LIGHT

5 sessions over 10 days. This course is suitable for dogs with yellow staining. £60 pre paid package

INTENSE

10 sessions over 21 days. This course is suitable for dogs with hardened dark plaque. £120 pre paid package

MAINTENANCE

Once all tar, plaque and staining has been removed or your dog has good oral health, we can begin maintenance sessions once every 2-3 weeks. If teeth cleaning is not maintained then the symptoms of tar, plaque, staining and bad breath will return. £10 per session.

Single sessions £15 until all tar and staining is removed then you will be moved onto maintenance price unless tar and staining return. To be able to see results I recommend coming in for 5 sessions over a 10 day period for dogs with yellow staining and 10 sessions over a 21 day period for dogs with hardened dark tar and plaque build up.
